About me
Trade ::::
I started my career by being an apprentice for three years to a restoration/gilder and “Fassmaler” in Hamburg. After completing various internships and gaining practical experience and knowledge, I opened my own Atelier and have since been self-employed.
Since 2015 I work in my Atelier in the Grindelhof in Hamburg – back to the roots, since this is also where I did my apprenticeship.
Sustainability ::::
I see my occupation more as a vocation – it brings me joy to know that at the core of this trade lies the preservation of beautiful objects. Without this trade the craftsmanship of old dressers, frames and other pieces of wood furniture would be forgotten.
I dedicate myself to my client’s works of art, large or small, with great enthusiasm, in order to preserve their value, whether monetary or emotional.

Gilding
The craft of gilding has hardly changed since the 15th century.
Although the gold leaves are now produced by machine, each individual leaf is still “beaten” by hand at the end. A sheet of gold is one thousandth of a millimetre thick.
The materials used to prepare the surface for gilding have also stayed largely the same for centuries.
The work of a gilder during the gilding process is akin to a meditation with its focus and calmness.

Restoration
Frames, pieces of furniture or other decorative elements are restored and repaired using traditional methods of the craft and, if necessary, modernised according to the customer’s individual wishes.

Framing
My speciality lies in creating custom frames. Whether it’s an Alex Katz, a Man Ray, a cheerful child’s drawing or a cherished oil painting from the family collection – there is a beautiful frame for every work of art that brings out the character of the picture and at the same time offers lasting protection.
Finding the perfect fit for the painting and its owner continues to inspire me!

Fassmalerei
A craft that is better known in southern Germany and Italy, “Fassmalerei”, is the ‘painting’ of cupboards, chests and tables in a wide variety of shapes and with several layers of colour. With this work, new life is given to old, cherished pieces that are worth preserving. The right combination of a new coat of paint and new handwear and the furniture can be used with enthusiasm also by the next generation.
